Results

Forty-four patients with mania or hypomania and cocaine dependence were enrolled. The citicoline group demonstrated a statistically significant effect on auditory verbal learning. There were no significant effects on mood ratings. Patients who received placebo had 6.41 times higher odds of testing positive for cocaine compared to the citicoline group. Citicoline is an over-the-counter supplement with effects on membrane phospholipids and cerebral metabolism.
