Results

This study compared pentazocine, an opiate, to lorazepam in patients with mania (bipolar or schizoaffective). Twenty patients were assigned to 100 mg pentazocine for 1 day or 0.5 mg of lorazepam for 1 day, then crossed over to the other drug on day 2. They were rated on the MACS (manic acute change scale) and YMRS. No difference was found in ratings between the two drugs.
