Results
Eighty patients with bipolar disorder depression were randomized to receive either pregnenolone or placebo as an add-on medication. Pregnenolone was associated with improvement in depression using measures from the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HRSD). Secondary outcome measures of the Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology-SR (IDS-SR) were negative. Reductions in anxiety symptoms were also not significant.
