Results
Twenty three patients with bipolar depression were randomized to receive daily left prefrontal rTMS or placebo for 2 weeks. There were 12 patients with bipolar I depression, 9 patients with bipolar II depression and 2 patients with a mixed state. There was no significant difference between the rTMS group and the placebo group for number of antidepressant responders or for score on the Hamilton Depression Scale.
