Results

Forty subjects, ages 6 to 17, with Bipolar I or II disorders and comorbid Attention Deficit Disorder were treated in an open label format with divalproex for 8 weeks. Divalproex was associated with significant improvements on the Young Mania Rating Scale but not on measures of Attention Deficit Disorder. Thirty subjects who had been stabilized on divalproex were then randomized to receive Adderall in a double-blind, placebo controlled, crossover design. Adderall was significantly more effective than placebo for Attention Deficit Disorder without significant worsening of manic sympoms.
