Results
Three hundred thirty (330) patients with bipolar disorder were followed at 41 sites and randomized to valproate (750-1250 mg), lithium (plasma level 0.4-1.0), or both and followed for two years. Combination therapy was superior to both drugs as monotherapy (p=0.002), and lithium alone was superior to valproate alone.
