Results

One hundred eighty four patients with bipolar depression were randomly assigned to receive buproprion, sertraline, venlafaxine or placebo in addition to mood stabilizers for 10 weeks. The three antidepressants were associated with a similar rate of response (62-67%) and remission (34-44%). There was a significantly greater likelihood for switch into hypomania or mania with venlafaxine.
